Submit Your Artwork in 2025

People who have or have had mental health issues are invited to take part in the 13th Out of Sight Out of Mind exhibition, which will be held in October 2025 at Summerhall in Edinburgh.

Two options for submitting art in 2025

1.    Your artwork, your way…

One artwork per person. Any medium. Any size. Individually or as a group.

Closing date to apply: 12pm (midday) 7 July 2025.

Or

2.    Join the Comfort & Disturb Canvas installation...

We provide the canvas, you make your artwork on it and bring it to the exhibition in late September! A large installation will be made with all of the canvases.

Closing date to apply: 12pm (midday) Monday 30 June 2025.

Summary of guidance for all submissions:

  • Each person taking part must have personally experienced having had a mental health issue.

  • Take part as an individual or as a group (but not both)

  • You can submit one artwork

  • Artworks can be in any media, and be any size (any issues we will let you know)

  • Artworks do not have to be on the topic of mental health. They can be on any topic.

  • ‘Comfort & Disturb’ is the Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival theme this year. You are welcome to be inspired by it, but you do not have to.  

  • Artworks don’t have to be finished until they arrive at the exhibition venue in late September.

  • We can only accept submissions from people living in Scotland.

  • We will request the name and title in August. 

  • If you are submitting artwork on behalf of someone else you must ensure you have their, or their guardian’s, permission. You must also keep them informed about anything relevant to their participation in the exhibition.

  • Please check the guidelines for each form as they will help you know what to expect.

What to expect later in the year (dates/times confirmed in August):

  • Artwork hand in day at Summerhall - at the end of September.

  • An evening launch event – in October

  • The exhibition - three weeks starting in October

  • Artwork collection day – in November
