Happy hand-in day!
After months of everyone’s efforts (completing forms, making art, organising groups, planning meetings and emails) the moment has finally arrived — it’s time for exhibitors to bring their creations and hand them over to the OOSOOM team waiting at Summerhall.
Having spent so long engaging with digital versions, written descriptions, and the occasional teaser photo, it’s truly refreshing to finally encounter the artworks in real life. It’s a powerful reminder of the emotional weight that art can carry — and how nothing quite compares to being in its presence.

It all starts somewhere...
As we begin our first real day of install, it’s energising to walk through the space and witness the transformation as artworks begin to take their place.
While the task ahead can feel daunting at times, we’re incredibly lucky to be surrounded by a fantastic, supportive team. There’s a real sense of shared purpose — and plenty of snacks and hot drinks in our new team room to keep us going!
We’re also joined by dedicated volunteers, some of whom have travelled from far and wide, drawn here by the unique nature of this exhibition. Their stories and reasons for being involved are a moving reminder of why this work matters.
As we reflect on how each of us came to be part of this project — whether through lived experience, personal connection, or sheer passion — it becomes clear how much this exhibition is about more than just the artworks. It’s about the conversations, chance encounters, and the quiet power of shared understanding. That energy keeps us motivated and inspired as we bring this year's exhibition to life.
Curation conundrums
The curation of artworks made by 400 people with experience of mental health issues has begun. There are still many decisions, conversations and tweaks to take place in the lead up to launch. It’s all part of the process that will realise the 13th Out of Sight Out of Mind!
