Closed Door

by MECOPP Gypsy/Traveller Project

We used to be able to gather with friends and family and travel across the country together. But the door is being closed on this part of our culture. Our traditional stopping places are being closed and we are being forced to settled down when we don’t want to – leaving us scattered, isolated and with nowhere to gather.

Today most Gypsy/Travellers live in houses, or in trailers on permanent sites. This artwork has been created by members of the community to share their feelings and experiences of living behind these doors.
